LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's basketball team used a balanced effort to pull away from Wesleyan University 69-49 in a NESCAC matchup on Friday night at Alumni Gym. The visiting Cardinals led 28-27 at the half, but Bates started the second half with a 13-2 run en route to outscoring Wesleyan 42-21 in the final period.

Sophomore Taryn O'Connell (Georgetown, Mass.) led the Bobcats (15-5, 3-2 NESCAC) with a season-high 13 points, hitting 3-of-4 shots from behind the arc. O'Connell scored 11 of her points in the second half. Senior Christine McCall (Lowell, Mass.) and first-year Meredith Kelly (Cohasset, Mass.) added 11 apiece. Senior Jessie Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) helped the Bobcats to a 42-36 advantage on the boards, with 11 rebounds, and she also blocked three shots. Junior Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) passed out a game-high six assists.

Eileen Gaffney led the Cardinals (6-11, 0-5 NESCAC) with 16 points and nine rebounds, and Kendra Harris chipped in with 12 points from off the bench.

Bates held Wesleyan to 1-13 shooting from three-point territory, and built a 39-19 advantage in bench points.

Bates hosts Connecticut College tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Bobcats' regular-season home finale. Wesleyan travels to Tufts tomorrow.
