LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates sophomore back Patrick King (Gorham, Maine) ended a scoreless tie with a goal in the 61st minute, sending the host Bobcats to a 1-0 victory over Endicott College Tuesday in non-conference men's soccer.
From inside the penalty area, King accepted a pass from senior Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) and drilled a shot past Endicott senior goalie Cameron Twiss (Reading, Mass.) and into the middle upper net. The goal stood up as the game-winner for Bates, which raised its record to 4-7-1 while the visiting Gulls fell to 1-9-3.
Twiss had eight saves in 71 minutes of goalkeeping for Endicott and junior Scott Emmens (Wethersfield, Conn.) had one in 19 minutes.
Seniors Aaron Schleicher (Londonderry, N.H.) and Robert Wesley-Munro (Walpole, Mass.) split halves for Bates, with Schleicher starting and recording two saves, and Wesley-Munro earning the win while also saving two shots.
Bates outshot Endicott by a 23-8 margin.
The Bobcats will host Middlebury in a NESCAC contest on Homecoming Saturday at 2 p.m.; Endicott will host Eastern Nazarene this Thursday.
