MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Wesleyan University got a goal from Marissa Trevisan to break a scoreless tie with 27 minutes left, and the host Cardinals went on to defeat the Bates College women's soccer team 2-0 on Saturday.
Wesleyan (3-8, 2-5 NESCAC) defeated Bates (2-9, 0-7 NESCAC) for only the second time in their past nine meetings and broke a seven-year losing streak in the process.
Trevisan scored the winner off a centering pass from Elena Bertocci and one-timing the ball into the net past Bates first-year goalkeeper Brittney French (Auburn, Maine). Sam Blank added a late insurance goal off of the rebound of a Battelle shot.
French made six saves for the Bobcats, who outshot the Cardinals 18-11, including a 10-4 margin in the second half.
Bates will play host to Middlebury College in its final home game next Saturday at 11 a.m.
