LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior Kim Alexander (Cumberland, Maine) and sophomore Julie Brown (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored first-half goals and the Bates College women's soccer team held off Connecticut College in the second half for a 4-2 NESCAC win on Saturday.
The Camels (1-4 overall, 0-3 NESCAC) rebounded in the second half, notching 13 of their 18 shots in the game and scoring twice on the feet of first-year Sharon Katz (Barrington, R.I.) and junior Jackie Wade (Medfield, Mass.).
But senior back Becky Macdonald (Danvers, Mass.) scored from 35 yards out for the game-winning score 12 minutes into the second half off an assist by senior Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.), and the Bobcats (4-2, 2-2) registered another score with an own goal put in by the Camels.
Sophomore Mia Lidofsky (Providence, R.I.) made 11 saves in goal for Bates; Connecticut College first-year Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) had 13 saves.
Alexander notched her team-high fourth goal of the season in the 29th minute off an assist from junior Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.). Brown struck with her second goal of the year into the upper left corner of the Camels' goal less than six minutes later, assisted by classmate Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.).
Bates hosts Babson on Sept. 28. Connecticut College plays at Wellesley on Sept. 27.
