LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior Ithai Schori scored off a Duane Pelz pass 19 seconds into overtime to lift the Bates College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over UMaine-Farmington on Wednesday.
Schori (New York, N.Y.) took a pass from Pelz (Boulder, Colo.) on the right side of the penalty box and sent a low shot into the far corner of the net, past UMF goalkeeper Brian Lemont (Brunswick, Maine).
Bates junior Pat Grater (Mystic, Conn.) tied the game at 1-1 with 17:20 left in regulation, after Lemont turned away Pelz's low blast from outside. Pelz was credited with two assists in the game.
The visiting Beavers (1-3-1) took a 1-0 lead on senior Kellen Brown's (Berwick, Maine) first-half goal, as Brown caught the Bates defense too far upfield and beat goalie Aaron Schleicher (Londonderry, N.H.) one-on-one from about 30 yards out.
The Bobcats (2-2) outshot the Beavers 27-3 in the game. Junior goalie Rob Munro (Walpole, Mass.) made Bates' lone save in the second half.
Bates will host Connecticut College in a NESCAC matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m. UMF plays at Castleton State Saturday at 1 p.m.
