HARTFORD, Conn. -- Sophomore forward Greg Nelson (Greenwich, Conn.) scored the only goal of the game with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second half to lead the visiting Bates College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

With its first win of the season, Bates improves its overall and league records each to 1-2. Trinity remains winless on the year, falling to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NESCAC.

Nelson battled junior goalkeeper Spencer Durland (Rochester, N.Y.) in front of the Bantam net, taking multiple shots before finding the back of the goal to give the Bobcats the lead.

Trinity knocked on the door all game long including in the first half when senior tri-captain Michael Johnson (Holliston, Mass.) headed a ball that hit the crossbar.

Junior goalkeeper Aaron Schleicher (Londonderry, N.H.) earned the shutout in goal for the Bobcats, making four saves, while Bantam senior goalkeeper Eric Wunsch (New York, N.Y.) made two saves and Durland recorded three stops.

Bates will host UMaine-Farmington in its first home game this Wednesday at 4 p.m.
