LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 10 Brown University men's squash team prevailed 5-4 over No. 13 Bates College Sunday at the Bates Squash Center, in a match that couldn't have been much closer.

Bates (7-6) scored a win at position 1, where sophomore Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) extended his season record to 12-1 with a straight-set victory over Brown senior Breck Bailey (Greenwich, Conn.). At No. 5, senior Peter Goldsborough (Falmouth, Mass.) outlasted Brown senior Brian Rifkin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in five sets. First-year Marc Taggart (Skippack, Pa.) won in straight sets at No. 7, and classmate Charlie Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) won in four sets at No. 8.

Brown prevailed in two five-set battles, with senior David Krupnick (Philadelphia, Pa.) outlasting Bates senior co-captain Jamie White (Summit, N.J.) at No. 4 and junior Mark Goldberg (Westport, conn.) edging Bates first-year Deacon Chapin (Cambridge, Mass.) at No. 9.

The Bobcats will play at Bowdoin College Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m.
