LEWISTON, Maine – The Bates women’s soccer team earned its third consecutive win of the season this afternoon. The Bobcats soared over Trinity College in a conference game, 7-1. Bates is now 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in the conference, while Trinity falls to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the NESCAC.
Junior Kim Alexander (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) scored two goals on the day including the first goal of the game only 2:30 into the game off of a corner kick from Jessie Gargiulo (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxboro). Gargiulo then scored off of a breakaway pass from Allison Emery (Richmond, V.T./Mount Mansfield) at 29:29 in the first half.
Jessica Hansen (West Granby, Conn./Suffield Acad.) served a corner kick to Katherine O’Brien (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) who headed in the ball to put the Bantams on the board with 8:15 remaining in the first half.
First year Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) scored her second collegiate goal with five seconds remaining in the half on a breakaway pass from Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow).
Mary Bucci (Norfolk, Mass./Bishop Feehan) broke open the second half when Jenna Benson (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) served a corner kick. Alexander struck again less than a minute later with Benson earning her second assist. Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass./Phillips Andover) scored with 18:13 remaining in the game with Wagner getting the assist. The last goal of the game at 12:06 remaining in regulation from Sarah Gips (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Waynflete School) to Amy Weberlin (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sage School). The goal was Weberlin’s first of her collegiate career.
The Bobcats took a total of 21 shots including 16 in the first half. Nini Spaulding (Sanfrancisco, Califo/University High School) and Caitlin Demko (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) each recorded two saves for Bates. Tara Finucane (Branford, Conn./Branford) stopped nine for the Bantams.
The Bobcats will travel to Babson on Thursday for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
