Men's soccer loses in downpour at Williams, 3-1

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Both teams struggled to move the ball effectively in a torrential downpour Saturday afternoon at Cole Fields, but the Williams College Ephs managed to outshoot the visiting Bates College Bobcats 24-7 en route to a convincing 3-1 victory.

The loss ends Bates' winning streak at six games. The Bobcats (6-2-1, 3-2-1 NESCAC) will resume play at the University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday.

Sophomore forward Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) capitalized on a rebound from teammate Kyle Rushton's (Windham, N.H.) blistering shot to tie the game at 1-1 just 12 minutes into the game. The score was Morin's fourth in five games.

But Williams (8-1, 5-0) regained the lead with Dana Leary's goal in the 23rd minute, and added an insurance score by Dan MacGregor in the second half, as the field grew increasingly difficult to navigate.

Aaron Schleicher (Londonderry, N.H.) had five saves in goal for Bates. Nick Armington had three for Williams.
