Bates junior Kallie Nixon is having an exceptional outdoor season thus far, the latest example being her winning performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Saturday's five-team meet at MIT.
Competing against athletes from MIT, Colby, Southern Maine and Husson, Nixon (Medfield, Mass.) finished in a time of 11:05.23, nearly eight seconds faster than runner-up Martina de Geus of MIT. Nixon’s time is more than 34 seconds faster than her previous best in the event, and moves her comfortably into second place on the team’s all-time performance list, behind only three-time All-American Kathryn Moore ’07 (10:33.20).
Nixon's time puts her at 11th place currently in Division III nationwide in the event.
Earlier this season, on March 30, Nixon took first place in both the 1,500 (4:45.69) and the 800 (2:17.87) in a tri-meet against Division I Maine and New Hampshire in Orono, Maine.
Bates was edged by Colby by half a point for second place at Saturday's MIT meet. The Bobcats will compete this weekend at Bowdoin's Aloha Relays.
