Bates junior Jarret McKallagat enjoyed arguably his best collegiate outdoor meet thus far on Saturday at the MIT Quad meet, which brought the Bobcats to Cambridge, Mass., to compete against the host Engineers as well as Colby and Southern Maine.
McKallagat (Atkinson, N.H.) posted season-best times in both the 110-meter high hurdles (15.07 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (55.13), finishing in second place in both events, as the Bobcats scored 233 points, 8.5 shy of team scoring leader MIT (242.5). Southern Maine (115.5) and Colby (85) rounded out the field.
McKallagat's time in the 400 hurdles was a personal record, and moved him into second place on Bates' team all-time performance list in the event, trailing only Adam Macbeth '07 (53.54). He now ranks 33rd in Division III in the event.
Senior teammate and team captain David Hardison (South Portland, Maine), a multi-event specialist, ran a PR in the 400 hurdles as well, finishing third in 56.08.
The Bobcats will host the State of Maine Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday, beginning at 12pm.
