Junior captain Hallie Grossman snagged a fifth-place finish in the 5K classic on Friday and followed that with a sixth-place finish in the 15K freestyle on Saturday for the Nordic ski team at the UNH Carnival, garnering Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of Jan. 20-26.
In her first race of the weekend at the Jackson Touring Center, the South Woodstock, Vt., resident came in fifth in the 5K classic technique race – her first career top-five carnival finish – with a time of 14:54.5. Her efforts helped the Bates women record 73 points as a unit, good for fifth place.
The next day in Jackson, N.H., Grossman captured a sixth-place finish among 93 skiers in the 15K freestyle race, clocking in at 43:19.5, just 1.3 seconds behind fifth-place finisher Emily Hannah of Dartmouth. The women’s side picked up 75 points as a team for fifth in the event.
At the end of the weekend’s skiing, the Bates alpine and Nordic programs combined for 478 carnival points, putting the Bobcats sixth out of 16 teams.
Grossman and the Bobcats return to action at the UVM Carnival on Friday and Saturday.
