Bates senior forward Molly Brown has been named Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, the New England Women's Basketball Association, the Eastern College Athletic Conference and the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association for the period between Dec. 8, 2014 and Jan. 4, 2015, and she is a natural choice as the female Bobcat of the Week as well.
The 5-foot-9 Brown (South Dartmouth, Mass.) exploded for a career-high 31 points, including 18 in the second half, and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Bates to a 76-72 win over No. 22 nationally ranked University of New England on Saturday. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc over the final 5:05, as Bates came from behind to upset the Nor'easters.
On Dec. 31, in Bates' 80-57 win over Clark University, Brown matched her previous career high with 27 points. A day earlier she led Bates with 19 points in a loss to MIT.
Bates has gone 2-1 since Dec. 8, with Brown averaging 25.7 points on 41.7 percent shooting, including 50% (13-26) behind the arc. She has also grabbed 6.3 rebounds with 2.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.
The Bobcats take a 9-4 record into the start of NESCAC play this weekend. Bates' league slate begins at Middlebury on Friday at 7pm.
