Bates College

Senior forward Shannon Beaton scored near the beginning of both halves as the Bates College field hockey team won for the fourth time in five games, 2-0 over Trinity College on Homecoming Saturday at Campus Avenue Field. 

Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.) gave Bates a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of the game, on Bates' first shot of the game. The senior captain knocked the ball past a defender near midfield and streaked ahead for a breakway. Beaton carried just inside the circle before unleashing a hard shot that found a gap between Trinity goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick and the near (right) goalpost.

Beaton then scored her team-high fifth goal of the season with 32:51 left in the second half, taking one touch on a Bates penalty corner, inserted by first-year Adah Lindquist (Wayne, Pa.), before striking the ball home just off the center of the cage.
