Pender (Muscat, Oman) claimed his second NESCAC championship in as many years, outswimming Bowdoin's Karl Sarier by 0.05 seconds to win the 100-yard freestyle championship final Sunday evening in an NCAA B-cut time of 44.83 seconds -- 0.40 seconds under the team record he established one year ago.

Pender won the conference 50-yard freestyle title in 2016.

On Saturday at the NESCAC Championships, Pender took third place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.81, nabbing All-NESCAC (top three) honors by 0.04 seconds ahead of Williams' Curtis Maher.

Bates placed third in the finals of the 200-yard medley relay to begin the evening session, with a time of 1:30.77 that nipped 0.02 seconds off of the former team record set in 2015, on legs swum by junior Riley Ewing (Bedford, N.H.), senior Dan Walpole (Montclair, N.J.), Pender and junior Jonathan Depew (Hudson, Ohio). The former record was set by Ewing, Andrew Briggs, Matthew Gagne and Pender.

Bates took fourth place in the final event of the three-day meet, the 400 free relay, with an NCAA B-cut time of 3:03.29, just 0.04 short of the team record set one year ago. Pender, first-year Tanner Fuller (Wellington, Fla.), senior Mike Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior Josh Rines (Hollis, N.H.) swam the legs.
