Kate Cottrell joined the Bates women’s soccer coaching staff in the fall of 2026 as an assistant coach, working primarily with the Bobcats’ goalkeepers.
Cottrell came to Bates with coaching experience at both the scholastic and youth levels. Most recently, she served as head coach of the eighth-grade girls’ soccer team in Falmouth, Maine, where she was responsible for planning and leading practices and games. She has also worked with the Falmouth Youth Soccer Association, designing and leading goalkeeper training sessions for players ranging from U10 through U16.
Cottrell holds Goalkeeping Level 1 and Level 2 certifications from United Soccer Coaches and earned her U.S. Soccer 11v11 Grassroots Coaching License in 2024. Her broader coaching background includes softball, rugby and basketball, as well as several years working as a Unified Soccer coach and coordinator with Special Olympics in Portland.
Away from the field, Cottrell is a Latin teacher at Falmouth High School, where she has taught since 2022. She previously taught at Doane Academy in Burlington, New Jersey, and has additional teaching experience at Tufts University and Arlington High School.
Cottrell earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a Master of Classics with teaching licensure from Tufts University.
