Heeren joins the Bobcats after serving as head athletic trainer for Kents Hill School (KHS), a college-preparatory school in Kents Hill, Maine, since August 2021. As a member of the Kents Hill athletic department, Heeren developed the KHS Sports Medicine policy and procedures manual and best practices, including facility and venue Emergency Action Plans. Jake also oversaw all injury management and referrals for the KHS student-athletes, while managing the KHS Concussion Management team.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to join such an impressive institution like Bates College," said Heeren. "I would like to thank Nick Cooke, and the entire sports medicine team for giving me the opportunity to come aboard as we provide top-level care to our fellow Bobcats, and continue to set the standard of care in sports medicine."

No stranger to collegiate athletics, Heeren served as head athletic trainer at Maine Maritime Academy (Castine, Maine) from July 2016 to July 2021. Jake provided direct supervision of the MMA Sports Medicine staff and served as the head athletic trainer of the Mariners' football program for five seasons. He also served as the primary contact for the MMA men's basketball and lacrosse programs, as well as the institution's women's soccer, rugby, golf, and cross country teams.

Prior to Maine Maritime, Heeren commenced his career as head athletic trainer at Hyde School, a college-preparatory school in Bath, Maine .

Jake graduated from Shenandoah University (Winchester, Va.) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2014, while earning a Master of Science in Athletic Training the following year (also from Shenandoah).
