Nick Cooke was hired as the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance in June of 2018. He arrived at Bates after working for 10 years at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y. He was promoted to Associate A.D. in July of 2022.

Cooke served the last seven years at at Hobart and William Smith as the Coordinator of Sports Medicine. He was hired as an assistant athletic trainer at HWS in August of 2008 before being promoted to the coordinator. At HWS, Cooke oversaw the medical coverage for all 23 varsity programs. He served as the primary athletic trainer with Hobart football and Division I Hobart lacrosse. Cooke managed the College’s Intercollegiate Sports Insurance program, served as the athletics liaison to the eating disorder team, and managed the coverage for a number of league and NCAA tournament rounds in football, soccer, field hockey, hockey, basketball, and lacrosse.

While at HWS, Cooke facilitated program enhancements to the sports medicine department including an integrated preparticipation exam process, implementation of an electronic medical record, as well as a concussion management protocol.  He also was instrumental in the addition of on campus chiropractic and physical therapy services for student-athletes.  

In addition to his duties in athletics, Cooke taught an Introduction to Athletic Training course at HWS, as well as guest lectured for the New York Chiropractic College, Finger Lakes Regional EMS, and NATA clinical symposium on topics including concussion, the spine injured athlete, and crisis management.

Cooke graduated from the University of Vermont in 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in nutrition and food science, and a concentration in athletic training. He went on to serve as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Purdue University, where he earned a master of science degree in administration and pedagogy in 2008. 

A native of South Portland, Maine, Cooke is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. He currently resides in Lewiston with his wife Paige.
