Bates College

Spencer Carey joined the Bates football coaching staff in 2019 to lead the Bobcats' defensive secondary. 

Born in Waterville, Maine, and a graduate of Lawrence High School, Coach Carey was a two-time All-State safety in high school, as well as a two-time Pine Tree Conference Champion. He was also a semifinalist for the Fitzpatrick Award.

Carey was a five-year member of the University of Maine Black Bears football team as a safety and a member of the 2013 CAA Championship team. The Maine native earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UMaine in kinesiology and physical education in 2017.

Carey coached at Maine Maritime Academy in 2018, leading the Mariner outside linebackers. At MMA he coached a NEWMAC all-conference outside linebacker as well as a NEWMAC co-rookie of the year.

In high school, Carey was named KVAC Co-Player of the Year and All-State safety; Led team to Eastern Maine Championships in 2011 and 2012; and was a KVAC First Team selection in basketball.
