WILMINGTON, Del. -- Bates women's rowing senior captain
Isabelle Martin and junior
Megan O'Donnell are
CRCA first team All-Americans, and 14 Bobcats have been recognized as Scholar-Athletes for their academic excellence, as announced Friday by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
Martin (Roslyn, Wash.) adds to her post-season accolades, having already been named first team All-NESCAC. She rowed in the third seat of the first varsity eight as the Bobcats won a silver medal and finished second overall as a team at the NCAA Championships. She was also in the third seat when the Bobcats captured gold at the National Invitational Rowing Championship, winning the program's eighth NESCAC title.
O'Donnell (Wayland, Mass.) was paired with Martin in the fourth seat of the 1V this year, helping the Bobcats win the NESCAC and finish national runner-up.
This is the first All-America honor of both their careers. Only nine NCAA Division III rowers were named first team All-Americans.
Martin, a mathematics major, and O'Donnell, a physics and earth & climate science double major, shined in the classroom as well. They are two of 14 Bates rowers to earn CRCA Scholar-Athlete awards for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher through the end of fall semester with at least a sophomore standing while having competed in an NCAA boat at their conference championship or national championship.
