Baseball rolls to 14-2 win over Saint Joseph's

Junior Henry Prince hits another grand slam in the victory

STANDISH, Maine -- Bates exploded offensively, led by another dominant game from junior Henry Prince, as they snapped their four-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 14-2 victory over Saint Joseph's.

Junior captain Keagan Ryan (Salem, N.H.) got the Bobcat offense going from the first batter, reaching on an error to open the game, and after senior Jack Margiloff (Rye, N.Y.) drove him home with an RBI single through the middle, the Bobcats kept piling on. Senior Gibby Sullivan (Yarmouth, Maine) and sophomore David Swift (Yarmouth, Maine) worked their way on base, and then Prince (McLean, Va.) delivered the first major blow of the afternoon with a two-run double to left-center that pushed the lead to 4-0 before Saint Joseph's had gotten a chance to hit.

Bates (17-7) busted the game open in the second inning, plating seven more runs. Prince came up with the bases loaded once again and teed off on another baseball for his second grand slam in as many games. Sophomore Max Dushney (Ashland, Mass.) joined the home run party with a three-run shot of his own, delivering the back-breaking blow to the Monks (24-9) before they could even record six outs.

Bates added three more in the fifth to push the final to 14-2, leaving no doubt about the outcome. The Bobcats finished the afternoon with 12 hits, seven walks, four stolen bases, and just two strikeouts as a team, marking their most complete and efficient offensive performance from top to bottom in a week.

On the mound, senior Max Dio (Wellfleet, Mass.) was sharp and in command. He worked five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while throwing 96 pitches in his longest and most dominant performance of the season. He was backed by first-years Alex Frymoyer (Arlington, Va.) and Ian Allen (Lakeland, Fla.), who combined to allow just one hit over the final two frames to close out the victory.

Prince was again at the center of the Bobcats' offensive dominance, finishing the day with four hits, a home run, and seven RBIs. Dushney finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Margiloff finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Ryan went 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, continuing to set the table at the top of the order. Sullivan contributed a hit and a run, and sophomore John Federico (Durham, N.H.) chipped in an RBI.

The timing of the performance couldn't be better for Bates, who now return home to face No. 22 nationally ranked Tufts this Friday at 3 p.m.
