Bates Falls Twice at Williams as Late Innings Prove Decisive

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Bates dropped both ends of a NESCAC doubleheader at Williams on Saturday, falling 5-3 in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap at Cole Field.

In Game One, the Bobcats carried a 1-0 lead into the fifth before Williams used a three-run inning to take control for good. LF Sienna Pietrasiewicz put Bates on the board with a solo home run in the third, and 3B Emma Yen later added a two-run, inside-the-park homer in the seventh to bring the Bobcats within two.

Bates finished with six hits in the opener, with Pietrasiewicz (2-for-3, HR, RBI) and Yen (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) leading the offense.

Williams answered with 12 hits, including a three-hit, three-RBI performance from SS Alysa DeQuiroz, and added two more runs in the sixth to extend the margin to 5–1.

In the nightcap, Bates was limited to two hits in a one-run loss, with Williams scoring the decisive run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bobcats struck first in the second inning, taking advantage of a passed ball and three wild pitches to bring C Isabel Bettencourt home for a 1–0 lead.

Williams (14-8, 6-0 NESCAC) answered in the bottom half of the inning to even the score, and the game remained tied into the seventh behind a steady outing from Bates starter Brigid Gaffny, who allowed just two runs over 6.1 innings.

In the final frame, Williams strung together three hits, with 3B Aprill Medrano delivering the walk-off RBI single to center that scored C Haley Barrett from third. Ephs ace, Sadie Leonard, moved to 10-3 with the win (7.0 IP, 12 K).

SS Ella Maher recorded Bates' lone extra-base hit of the game with a double, while 2B Maddy Miller added a single and stolen base.

Bates (9-14, 1-7 NESCAC) remains on the road for its next action, a Sunday conference twin-bill at Middlebury. First pitch is set for noon.
