LEWISTON, Maine -- Hamilton swept all three doubles matches and carried that momentum through singles play en route to a 7-0 NESCAC win over Bates on Saturday at the Wallach Tennis Center.
The Continentals (9-4, 3-3 NESCAC) grabbed the early edge with victories at all three doubles spots. At No. 1, Hannah Walpole and Priyanka Challapalli topped
Iris Westmoreland and
Emelyn Harris, 6–4, while Hamilton added wins at No. 2 (6-1) and No. 3 (6-2) to take a 1-0 lead.
Bates' best chance to get on the board came at the top of the singles lineup, where Westmoreland pushed Walpole to a match tiebreak after splitting the first two sets. Walpole ultimately prevailed, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) to clinch the fourth point for Hamilton.
The Continentals closed out the match with straight-set wins across the remaining singles courts.
Isabella Saul (No. 2),
Emelyn Harris (No. 3),
Avni Bakre (No. 4),
Lia Swire (No. 5), and
Grace LaFountain (No. 6) each battled but were unable to turn the tide as Hamilton completed the sweep.
The Bobcats (2-11, 1-6 NESCAC) play their final home match of the season Sunday when they welcome No. 16 Amherst to campus (1:00 p.m.). Bates will honor LaFountain and Saul prior to the contest with a special Senior Day ceremony.
