LEWISTON, Maine -- Visiting No. 16 Amherst swept doubles play and claimed five singles matches Sunday afternoon, defeating Bates 6-1 in NESCAC women's tennis action at the Wallach Tennis Center.

Grace LaFountain in a Senior Day ceremony.
Amherst (8-4, 4-2 NESCAC) took early control by earning the doubles point with wins at all three positions. The Mammoths secured victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the point, then added a 6-1 result at No. 1.
In singles, Bates (2-12, 0-6 NESCAC) picked up its lone point at No. 3, where first-year
Emelyn Harris was leading Sameera Talwar 6-5 in the opening set before Talwar was forced to retire, awarding Harris the win.
Amherst claimed the remaining completed singles matches in straight sets, including victories at the top two spots. Tina She earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over
Iris Westmoreland at No. 1, while Greta Stechschulte defeated Saul 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. The Mammoths also secured straight-set wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 to round out the team result.
The Bobcats will take to the road for their final two regular-season matches of the season, beginning with a visit to No. 3 Wesleyan University (Middletown, Conn.) Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
