WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – No. 22 Williams broke open a one-goal game at halftime, outscoring Bates 8-3 over the final two quarters to secure a 12-6 NESCAC victory Saturday. The Bobcats move to 4-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Bates struck first on Emma Lavallee's goal, assisted by Lauren Wong, but Williams answered with four straight to take control early in the second quarter. The Bobcats closed the gap before halftime, as Haley Wines and Caroline Keating scored to make it 4-3 at the break.
Williams seized momentum out of halftime with three consecutive goals, part of a 4-2 third quarter that pushed the lead to 8-5. Grace Cassin and Wong each scored in the period to keep Bates within striking distance.
The Ephs (7-2, 4-1 NESCAC) put the game away in the fourth, scoring four of the final five goals. Laci Raveis accounted for Bates' lone tally in the quarter.
Six different players scored for Bates, with Wong and Cassin each adding an assist. First-year goalkeeper Virginia Avery made seven saves. Williams finished with a 34-16 edge in shots, while shots on goal were closer at 15-12.
Bates returns to action Wednesday with a 7 p.m. trip to Bowdoin.
