THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Bates women's tennis closed out its West Coast swing Saturday with a 7–0 setback at California Lutheran University, wrapping up a 1–3 trip through Southern California.
The Regals (4-1) secured the doubles point with wins on all three courts to open the match.
Cal Lutheran followed by taking each singles flight in straight sets, with the exception of a tightly contested match at No. 4 singles. Bates'
Elise Hepburn forced a third set after rebounding from a first-set loss, but the Regals' Grace Balasian (Fy.-Los Angeles, Calif.)Â ultimately prevailed in three (6-1, 1-6, 6-4).
Iris Westmoreland (3-6, 2-6) competed at the top of the singles lineup for the Bobcats, while
Isabella Saul (4-6, 2-6),
Emelyn Harris (2-6, 3-6),
Ava Steinberger (3-6, 2-6), and
Hannah Farber (0-6, 1-6)Â rounded out the Bates order in Saturday's finale.
Bates now returns to campus to prepare for its spring home opener next Saturday, when the Bobcats welcome No. 26 Vassar to the Merrill Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
