WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Bates women's tennis team swept every match on their way to a 7-0 win over Whittier on Friday.
In doubles action, junior captain
Iris Westmoreland (New Orleans, La.) teamed up with first-year
Emelyn Harris (Indianapolis) and gutted out a 7-5 victory over the Whittier team of Jordan Netzsch and Paige Valenzuela at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 doubles, senior captain
Isabella Saul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and first-year
Lia Swire (Sudbury, Mass.) earned a 6-2 win over Rhea Gagnepain and Lindsay Lemus. The most dominant doubles victory for the Bobcats (1-2) came at the No. 3 position, as sophomore
Mya Vincent (Auburn, Maine) teamed up with first-year
Hannah Farber (North Easton, Mass.) to win 6-1 over Estrella Vazquez and Leilany Aguilar.
On the singles side of the ledger, all six Bobcats won in straight sets. Westmoreland prevailed 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles over Gagnepain. Harris took down Valenzuela 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Saul won 6-1, 6-1 over Netzsch at No. 3 singles.
The bottom half of the lineup was just as dominant. Junior
Ava Steinberger (Hockessin, Del.) earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot over Lemus. Junior
Elise Hepburn (Vero Beach, Fla.) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Vazquez. And senior captain
Grace LaFountain (New Hartford, N.Y.) had the most dominant win of the day, a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Aguilar at No. 6 singles.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday when they take on Cal Lutheran at 1 p.m. eastern, 10 a.m. pacific.
