LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates men's indoor track and field team had no problem winning their first home meet of the year, scoring 270.5 points on their way to victory at the Bates Invitational & Multi, held Friday and Saturday at the Walt Slovenski Track in Merrill Gymnasium.
Bates finished well-ahead of their next-closest competitor, as runner-up University of Southern Maine scored 137 points.
Meet Highlights
- Senior captain Carson Moellering (Natick, Mass.) moved up to fifth on the Bates all-time performance list in the heptathlon, scoring a career-best 4,350 points and taking fourth place at the meet. He won the 1,000 meters with a personal-record time of 2:52.97 and also set a personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.54 seconds.
- The Bobcats took the top two spots in the shot put and junior Matt Charpentier (York, Maine) moved up to ninth on the Bates indoor all-time performance list with his winning heave of 52-6.75 (16.02m).
- Junior Evan Berthiaume (East Greenwich, R.I.) won the 200-meter dash in 22.83 seconds.
- First-year Liam Walsh (West Hartford, Conn.) won the 400 meters in 53.97 seconds.
- The Bobcats took the top two spots in the 1,000 meters, with first-year Alex Rodgers (Lowell, Mass.) winning in 2:35.87.
- Bates dominated the mile, grabbing the top five spots as sophomore Max Hoffman (Wellesley, Mass.) won the race in 4:19.09.
- The Bobcats secured the top four spots in the 3,000 meters, with first-year Carsten Lyons (Raleigh, N.C.) winning in 9:05.68.
- Junior Miles Logan (Brunswick, Maine) won the 5,000 meters in 15:21.49.
- Walsh, Berthiaume, junior Ryan Harding (Wellesley, Mass.), and senior captain Evan Migdole (Westbrook, Conn.) teamed up to win the 4x400 relay in 3:32.18.
- Sophomore Nate Roberts (Summit, N.J.), senior captain Jackson Monz (Logan, Utah), Rodgers, and Hoffman teamed up to win the Distance Medley Relay in 10:28.27.
- Sophomore Nick Nicolazzo (Wellesley, Mass.) won the triple jump with leap of 44-0.5 (13.42m).
- Bates took the top two spots in the 35-pound weight throw, with sophomore Ryan Glaser (Rockport, Maine) winning with his top effort of 54-9.5 (16.70m).
Bates men's indoor track and field is back in action next Saturday at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT.
