BANGOR, Maine -- The Bates women's soccer team scored two goals in the final three minutes to stun the Husson University Eagles by a score of 2-1 Wednesday night in a thrilling start to the 2025 season for the Bobcats.
Bates (1-0) trailed 1-0 until the 88th minute of action. A Husson foul set up a long free kick opportunity for sophomore
Gwyn Jamison (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and she launched a high twisting shot from 30 yards out that went over the keeper and into the back of the net for the equalizer.
Less than 30 seconds later, the Bobcats pulled ahead for the first time. Jamison took the ball away from the Eagles and dribbled past midfield. Then she delivered a perfect through ball to senior
Gabby Monaco (Pittsburgh) and Monaco redirected the ball to junior
Rachel Suh (Seattle). Suh made a perfect touch to avoid one defender and found herself with only the goalkeeper to beat. She delivered a shot into the lower right side of the net and Bates led 2-1.
Neither team got a shot off in the final minute-plus of action as the Bobcats pulled off the spectacular comeback victory, their 14th win over their past 17 matches with Husson.
The Eagles (1-2) got on the board first in the 42nd minute. Caley Nault fed the ball into the box off a set piece from straight on and Lyndsee Reed was able to head the ball up and over everyone while facing away from the goal for the score.
Despite having to rally, the Bobcats dominated the match statistically, out-shooting Husson 15-7, with seven shots on goal for Bates to three for the Eagles. Bates also recorded eight corner kicks to none for Husson.
First-year
Brady Jacobson (Weston, Mass.) did not allow a goal and made two saves in her 45 minutes of action to pick up the win between the pipes for Bates.
The Bobcats are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Hartford, Conn. to take on the Trinity College Bantams at 11 a.m. in the NESCAC opener for both teams.
