LEWISTON, Maine – Bates men's soccer suffered its first loss of the season in heartbreaking fashion Saturday afternoon, as Wesleyan scored in the final four seconds to secure a 1-0 victory at Russell Street Field. The Bobcats now stand at 4-1-1 overall (1-1-1 NESCAC), while Wesleyan improves to 3-2-1 (1-0-1 NESCAC).
With the clock stopped at four seconds, Wesleyan earned a corner kick. Junior Aiden Londergan delivered the ball into the box, where first-year Riley Harvey finished a header for the game-winning goal.
The Cardinals held a narrow edge in shots, 11-8, including a 6-1 advantage in shots on target. Bates sophomore goalkeeper George Nassar made five saves to keep the match scoreless until the final moments.
The Bobcats look to bounce back next Saturday when they travel to face No. 16 nationally ranked Amherst in a 2:30 p.m. conference matchup.
