NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Bates College emerged victorious Saturday at Connecticut College as the Bobcats sent off the Camels, 14-10, to lock down a significant NESCAC road triumph.
The Camels opened with a 4–3 lead after the first quarter, led by Aidan McAvoy's two early goals. Bates responded with a 3–2 second quarter behind goals from
Ben Miller (13:32),
Denzel Evans (9:13), and
Javi Werner (2:04), to strut into intermission tied at 6-6.
After both clubs secured a pair of tallies in the third to make the score 8-8, the Bobcats unloaded for six in the fourth (including five unanswered) to secure the win. Evans, with two goals on the day, sent in the game-winner with 10:40 left in regulation.
Miller and Werner also enjoyed two-goal efforts for Bates, as did
Gray Doyle and
Xander Frey. Bates owned a healthy 50-32 shot advantage over the Camels (5-5, 2-5 NESCAC).
Mason Proutt proved to be a menace to the Camels as the first-year caused four turnovers.
Miles Schmidt dominated at the face-off, winning 21 of his 26 attempts. The sophomore claimed 15 ground balls while Miller secured 10 grounders of his own in the win.
Andrew Toland grabbed eight saves in frame for Bates to earn the complete-game victory for the garnet and white.
Bates (8-4, 3-4 NESCAC) stays on the road for its next outing, a visit to No. 1 Tufts this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
