WENHAM, Mass. -- Bates men's basketball continued its strong opening weekend by defeating Plymouth State 95–87 Saturday afternoon, elevating the Bobcats to 2–0 for the first time since the 2015–16 season, and capping a perfect showing at the Gordon College Classic
Babacar Pouye led the way for the victors with 25 points and 16 rebounds, marking the fourth double-double of the junior's career.
Brady Coyne, with 23 points and five three-pointers on the day, has now compiled 55 points and 11 treys over the Bobcats' first two contests.
Elliott Cravitz knocked down five threes for 15 points, duplicating his production from the night before in a 100-55 win vs. Anna Maria.
Sean O'Leary also cracked double-digits with his 12 points in 25 minutes off the bench.
Despite trailing at halftime 45–41, Bates outscored Plymouth State 54–42 after the break by leaning on efficient shooting (62% in the second half) and relentless pressure on the glass. The Bobcats totaled 27 second-chance points, a major separator in a game that featured six ties and six lead changes.
Plymouth State (3-1) countered with strong guard play, including 27 points from senior Yansel Reyes (Manchester, N.H.) and 19 from senior Torran Bosworth (Springfield, Mass.), but the Panthers struggled to contain Bates' offensive balance and interior presence. The Bobcats scored 28 points in the paint and weathered multiple PSU surges in the second half, ultimately pulling away in the final 2+ minutes of regulation with an 8-0 run.
The garnet and white remains on the road with a visit to Husson this Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
