BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bates College women's volleyball team battled back in impressive fashion Friday night, defeating rival Bowdoin College 3–1 (7–25, 25–19, 25–20, 25–20) inside Morrell Gymnasium.
The win is the Bobcats' first over the Polar Bears since 2017 and their first in Brunswick since 2005. Bates improves to 9–7 overall and 3–5 in NESCAC play, moving up to sixth in the conference standings (as of this writing) to keep its postseason hopes very much alive.
After dropping the opening set, the Bobcats regrouped and took control behind reigning Bobcat of the Week
Malina Young's .267 hitting percentage and second-straight double-double performance (13 kills, 11 digs). The sophomore's kill total marks a new single-match career-high for Young.
Sofia Castiglioni (Jr.) added seven kills on a .357 clip and two solo blocks, while
Kate Norry (So.) contributed seven kills and six solo blocks.
Ellie Asada (Sr.) anchored the back line with 21 digs and three service aces, and
Lauren Croom (So.) tallied her second-consecutive double-double with 10 assists and 11 digs.
Ami Evans (Sr.) added four kills, 10 digs, and three solo blocks in a strong all-around effort.
The Bobcats next travel to Waterville, Maine to take on #11 nationally-ranked Colby Saturday at 2:00 p.m. as the garnet and white continues its playoff push.
