SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Bates men's golf junior
Arthur Jenkins tied for 30th out of 99 competitors to pace the Bobcats at the Skidmore Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Saratoga Spa State Park.
Jenkins (Shreveport, La.) turned in a particularly strong performance on Saturday, when the golfers all played 36 holes. He shot a 74 on his first 18, coming in at two over par. Then he fired a 71 on his second 18, good for one under par as Jenkins birdied three holes while only tallying a pair of bogeys.
Coming into Sunday at one over par overall, Jenkins did not have as much luck over the final 18 holes, tallying mostly pars but getting hurt by three bogeys and one triple bogey to finish at six over par for the round and seven over for the tournament.
Sophomore
George Hinton (Charlotte, N.C.) finished just two strokes back of Jenkins in a tie for 34th place at nine over par. He shot a 74, a 75, and a 76 on the weekend, with a highlight coming on hole three in his first round on Saturday, when Hinton recorded an eagle-3 on the par-5.
The best opening round of the tournament for the Bobcats belonged to first-year
Malin Adams (Litchfield, Conn.), who finished at even par. He tallied an impressive seven birdies to make up for a round that also saw a triple bogey, a double bogey, and two bogeys. He ended up at 16 over par for the tournament, good for third on the team and a tie for 62nd overall.
As a team, the Bobcats placed 12th out of 17 schools at 44 over par. The Bobcats finished just one stroke back of a tie for 10th. Bates wraps up the fall season this Saturday and Sunday at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, which is held at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. on Cape Cod.
