LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College volleyball team put together one of its most balanced offensive efforts of the season on Saturday, defeating Trinity (Conn.) 3–1 (26–24, 25–21, 21–25, 25–22) in Alumni Gym.
Five Bobcats recorded at least six kills, led by
Kate Norry's new career-high of 12.
Sofia Castiglioni, Malina Young, and
Anaïs Reneaum each added 10 kills apiece, while
Ami Evans tallied six and
Lauren Croom chipped in four to go with 24 assists and two aces. Young and Croom added 15 and 11 digs, respectively, to each achieve double-doubles on the day.
Bates (8–7, 2–5 NESCAC) totaled 25 blocks (22 block assists), holding the Bantams (10–7, 1–5 NESCAC) to a .166 hitting percentage. Norry was a force at the net with six total blocks (one solo), while Reneaum added eight block assists.
Ellie Asada anchored the defense with a match-high 24 digs.
In a tight opening set, Bates secured three of the final four points to take the frame, 26–24. The Bobcats carried that momentum into the second, using a 7–1 stretch midway through the set to gain control and go up 2–0. Trinity responded in the third behind Ellie Gordon's hot hand — she finished with a match-best 20 kills — but Bates regrouped in the fourth, surging ahead early and closing the match on an Evans kill.
The Bobcats look to make it two-straight with a return to conference action Friday night (6:00 p.m.) at Bowdoin.
