LEWISTON, Maine -- A
Rachel Suh goal in the 88th-minute (87:18) snapped a scoreless stalemate between Bates College and Trinity College as the Bobcats sent off the Bantams, 1-0, in a NESCAC women's soccer clash Saturday on historic Garcelon Field.
After a successful clear downfield by the Bobcat defense, first-year
Eleanor Martin scooted a centering pass to junior
Gabby Monaco, who proceeded to take a touch before firing a lefty liner onto the Trinity frame. Bantam goalie Lily Bracken (Fy.-Dallas, Texas) dived to left, deflecting the effort off of her mitts, setting up a trailing Suh, who rolled the game-winner (and first-career collegiate tally) across the box into the lower left.
The victory puts the garnet and white at 2-0 (1-0 NESCAC) to start a season for the first time since 2017, and represents the Bobcats' first defeat of Trinity (0-2, 0-1 NESCAC) on home turf since Oct. 3, 2015.
With six saves over her 90:00 of action, senior
Ruby Reimann (2-0) registered her first goalkeeping shutout of the year (2nd of career). Bracken drops to 0-2 to start her career with Trinity.
Bates sits idle until next Saturday, Sept. 14 when the Bobcats journey to Boston to take on Emerson College at 1:00 p.m. for a non-conference tilt.
