LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College women's soccer ended an almost 113-minute (112:49) scoring drought in dynamic fashion as the Bobcats unloaded for five tallies in a 5-0 rout of in-state rival, the University of New England, Tuesday evening on Garcelon Field.
The garnet and white remains undefeated (3-0-1) after the triumph while the Nor'easters (4-3) see its three-game winning streak come to a halt.
Mollie Franklin accounted for the first goal of the night (20:07) with a blast from about 20 yards out after the senior swiped an errant pass by the UNE defense and sent in her first of the season.
Massaging a 1-0 lead, the Bobcats uncorked their remaining four scores in just under a 12-minute stretch as Bates stays undefeated after the first four games of the year since beginning with an identical 3-0-1 mark in 2015.
Anna Masumoto made it 2-0 Bates as the senior, after drawing a UNE infraction, crunched the impending direct kick into the net from 23 yards away (76:39).
Abby Alter (two goals-79:51, 88:37) and
Gabby Monaco (80:11) put the result well in hand as the duo accounted for the final three tallies over a span of just 8:46.
Bates controlled the shot column with a 14-6 margin (9-2 on frame).
Ruby Reimann (82:35) and
Sydney Litney (7:25) combined in net for the Bobcats' third-consecutive shutout.
The Bobcats now take to the road for their first NESCAC tilt away from campus as Bates visits Wesleyan Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
