BRUNSWICK, Maine -- A 12-goal second quarter by Bowdoin College turned a two-goal deficit into a nine-goal cushion as the Polar Bears posted a 24-11 NESCAC women's lacrosse home win over rival-Bates College Tuesday night on Ryan Field.
The visiting Bobcats, energized by three early tallies from
Laci Raveis, wrapped up the initial 10:00 of action with a 5-3 advantage. Bowdoin proceeded to take a 6-5 lead by netting a trio of goals over the first 2:50 of the second period. Raveis, with her fourth goal of the first half, then tied the game at 6-6 at the 12:13 mark.
The home team countered by unleashing a furious 9-0 flurry to head into intermission with what proved to be an insurmountable 15-6 cushion.
Bates opened the second half with a 3-0 run, making the score 15-9 just 3:10 into the third quarter. The Polar Bears finally put the game on ice with a subsequent 8-0 sequence to make it 23-9 Bowdoin with 8:48 to go in regulation.
The Polar Bears, ranked #25 in the nation, improve to 7-3 (3-3 NESCAC) on the year while the garnet and white continues to seek its first conference victory of the season (4-6, 0-5 NESCAC).
Ellie Schofield paced the victors with six goals in the rout. Teammates Lauren Burke (5 goals) and Emelia Krakora (3 goals, 2 assists) added five-point showings of their own. Grace Harvey and Maddie Mrva each collected a hat trick apiece.
Raveis, a first-year attack from Fairfield, Conn., established a new career-best with her six-goal showing for the Bobcats.
Izzy Cisneros earned the goalkeeping win for Bowdoin with a pair of saves over her 30:00 of play.
Avery Lehman (49:22, 21 GA, 6 SV) suffered the loss for the Bobcats.
Bates remains on the road for its next outing, a noontime NESCAC showdown at Connecticut College this Saturday.
