HARTFORD, Conn. -- #18 Trinity College tamed visiting Bates College Saturday as the Bantams bounced the Bobcats, 18-8, in NESCAC women's lacrosse action.
Coming out of the first quarter of play with a 5-3 lead, Trinity opened the second period with five unanswered goals to take a 10-3 advantage with 7:16 remaining before the break.
Lauren Wong (6:43) and
Hanna Matthews (4:55) went back-to-back to inch Bates to within five (10-5), but the Bantams proceeded to unleash two tallies over the last 2:05 of the half, providing the home team a 12-5 cushion heading into intermission.
Trinity came out of the locker room and dominated the third frame, 6-1, to go up by a healthy margin of 18-6. The Bobcats blanked the Bantams, 2-0, in the fourth quarter, but the win was well in hand for the victors.
Molly McGuckin lead the way for Trinity (5-3, 2-2 NESCAC) with five points on the day (4 goals, assist). Natalie Miller followed with three tallies and a helper while Grace Denious (goal, 2 assists), Brooke Kurtz (3 goals), and Caroline Lampert (2 goals, assist) finished with three points apiece.
Sam Hark proved to be a menace to the Bobcats, collecting four caused turnovers and a trio of grounders in the win.
Wong, along with
Caroline Keating, recorded two goals and an assist for the garnet and white. Matthews also put in a pair for the Bobcats.
Ali Macdougal earned the win for Trinity with three saves in her 45:00 of action.
Avery Lehman was the goalie of record (7 saves, 38:04) for Bates.
The Bobcats (4-5, 0-4 NESCAC), which entered the day having won two-straight, look to start a new victory streak Wednesday night (7:00 p.m.) at Bowdoin.
