CASTINE, Maine -- Bates College, thanks to 11 different goal-scorers, secured a 16-8 non-conference road victory at Maine Maritime Academy Wednesday in men's lacrosse action.
The Bobcats, no a perfect 2-0 all-time vs. MMA, moves to 3-4 with victory. The Mariners drop to 3-2 with the setback.
Six goals in the first quarter, followed by six more in the second, provided Bates with a healthy 12-5 surplus heading into intermission. The garnet and white edged its host, 4-3, over the second half to lock down the triumph.
TJ Underhill (3 goals),
Connor Hartman (2 goals, assist), and
Alex Horowitz (2 goals, assist) paced the Bobcat offense with three points apiece.
Luke Breen fired in a pair of goals for Bates while
Wil Masterson,
Jake Johnson,
Kevin Burke, and
Denzel Evans contributed a goal and an assist each.
Miles Schmidt enjoyed a strong performance for the victors, securing 11-of-18 face-off attempts, along with a game-high six ground balls.
Benjamin Kondner and
Ben Miller each accounted for five grounders and a pair of caused turnovers.
Andrew Toland, with seven saves over 60:00 of action, earns his third collegiate goalkeeping win for the Bobcats. Despite collecting 22 saves in the effort, MMA's Garrett Ruszkowski was tagged with the loss.
Bates now treks to Middletown, Conn. for a NESCAC showdown with Wesleyan University (5-1). Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
