LEWISTON, Maine -- 14 different Bobcats found the back of the net Wednesday as Bates College women's lacrosse coasted to an 18-1 non-conference victory over visiting Worcester State University in the home opener for the garnet and white.
Seven goals in the first quarter, followed by six more scores in the second, provided the Bobcats a 13-0 surplus heading into intermission. Bidding for the shutout performance with a 17-0 lead late in the fourth frame, Worcester State's Mckayla Fisher spoiled the effort by pouring in the Lancers' lone goal with 5:20 left in regulation.
Julia Roelofs and
Lucy Taylor led the way for the Bates offense as each provided hat trick performances in the rout. For Taylor, the three tallies account for the first of the first-year's collegiate career.
Sadie O'Neil,
Laci Raveis, and
Lauren Wong contributed a goal and two assists each for the Bobcats (1-1).
Bates dominated the shot column, 33-7, with a 26-4 margin on frame.
Avery Lehman (1-0) earned the victory in frame for the Bobcats, collecting a lone save in 30:00 of play.
Raegan White, seeing her first action of the season for Bates between the pipes, gathered a pair of saves in her 30:00.
Jordyn Bolduc suffered her first loss of the year for the Lancers (1-1) despite recording eight saves in the effort.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday to host Hamilton in the NESCAC opener for both programs. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
