WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates men's swimming and diving team broke three more school records Saturday on the second-to-last day of the NESCAC Championships.
Sophomore
Max Cory (Dublin, Calif.) broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly, which had stood since 2015. Cory raced to the finish in the morning prelims in 48.73 seconds, before taking eighth in the championship final in 48.94 seconds.
Meanwhile, first-year
John Weigel (Iowa City, Iowa) set a new program standard in the 200-yard freestyle, racing to the finish in an NCAA "B" Cut time of 1:39.39, which was good for fifth place in the championship final. And sophomore
Marrich Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.) broke his own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking fourth place in the championship final in an NCAA "B" Cut time of 55.06 seconds.
Senior captain
Mark Gregory (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) earned All-NESCAC honors on Saturday in the 1,000-yard freestyle, placing third in 9:15.44.
Another top-8 effort for the Bobcats came from the 200-yard medley relay team of first-year
Tim Johnson (Brewster, Mass.), Somridhivej, first-yearÂ
Collin Faraher (Madison, N.J.), and sophomore
Nate Pierce (Fairfield, Maine), which took sixth place in 1:30.46.
The Bobcats are currently in 4th place out of 11 schools with 709.5 points. One day of competition remains, with prelims on Sunday set for 10am and finals for 5:15pm.
