Winter Park, Fla. -- Bates College's spring season is officially underway as women's tennis kicked off the championship portion of its campaign Wednesday with a visit to Division II Rollins College.
The host-Tars (2-2), playing their fourth dual match of the month, completed a clean sweep of the Bobcats, winning the match by a 7-0 score.
In doubles action, the afternoon started with Rollins striking first at No. 3 as the Tars' Milla Falster (So.-Stabekk, Norway) and Erin Yaroshuk (Sr.-Miami, Fla.) took down
 Liv Gidlow and
Ava Lyon by a 6-1 score. The Bobcats rebounded at No. 1 as the tandem of
Ally Friedman and
Iris Westmoreland breezed past Katie Groves (Gr.-Winter Springs, Fla.) and Nancy Liu (Fy.-Hohot, Mongolia), 6-2.
With doubles counting for just one overall point, and each squad securing a victory each thus far, it would come down to the play at the No. 2 position. In a tightly-contested match, Rollins' Maria McKay (Sr.-Ocala, Fla.) and Nina Mitrofanova (Gr.-Conroe, Texas) outlasted
Julia Anderson and
Isabella Saul by a slim score of 6-4 to put the Tars ahead, 1-0.
It would be all Rollins in singles action as the home team swept all six contests to seal the victory.
Singles results include:
(#1) Nancy Liu (Rollins) def.
Ally Friedman (Bates): 7-5, 4-6, 10-5
(#2) Katie Grives (Rollins) def.
