WATERVILLE, Maine -- Bates College, paced by
Babacar Pouye's game-high 23 points, collected its second-straight victory Sunday afternoon as the Bobcats took to the road and topped Thomas College, 82-67, in non-conference men's hoops action.
Triumphant in back-to-back contests for the first time since wins on Nov. 27 and Nov. 29 of the 2022-23 campaign, the Bobcats move to 2-4 overall while the Terriers slip to 3-5 on the year.
Trailing by five (11-6) 6:36 into the game, Bates bounced back to take a 12-11 lead at the 12:08 after a pair of
David Omasombo three-pointers put the road team in the lead. Thomas proceeded to put together a 7-0 surge to go up by six, 18-12, at 9:46. Three lead changes would follow before an
Elliot Cravitz three-ball with 4:36 left in the half ignited a 17-8 run for the Bobcats as the garnet and white headed into the break with an eight-point cushion (42-34).
It would be all Bates in the second half as the Bobcats never relinquished their lead the rest of the way. A high-water mark of 15 points would be achieved on two occasions in the stanza, first when
Sean O'Leary's fast-break lay-in with 3:30 left made the score 76-61 visitors. The Bobcat surplus returned to a 15-point margin when
Keenan Sparks drained a pair of free throws with 45 ticks left on the clock.
Pouye finished one rebound short of his second double-double of the year as he hit on 9-of-11 attempts from the field, complemented by a 5-for-6 showing from the charity stripe. The sophomore also contributed a game-best three rejections on the defensive end.
Peter Psyhogeos provided a second-consecutive showing of 14 points, shooting 50% (6-for-12) from the floor.
Brady Coyne collected his fifth-straight double-digit performance as the junior, thanks to a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, finished the day with 12 points.
Bates will now return home to host Bowdoin this Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Gym in the non-conference portion of this annual home-and-home series between the NESCAC rivals.
