PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Taking to the floor less than 24 hours after Friday night's letdown loss to Albertus Magnus College, Bates College bounced back in a big way as the Bobcats coasted to 76-50 victory over MIT in Saturday's consolation game of the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen Invitational.
After closing a tightly-contested first quarter with a slim 26-23 advantage, Bates outpaced the Engineers in the second, 24-8, as the garnet and white coasted into intermission up by 19 (50-31). The Bobcats limited MIT to just three points in the third period, while netting 14 of their own, to to build an insurmountable 30-point surplus (64-34) heading into the final frame.
An
Abby Walsh layup with 8:50 left in the fourth quarter pushed Bates' lead to a game-high 33 points (69-36) as 12 Bobcats contributed scoring efforts in the non-conference rout.
Elsa Daulerio hit on 50% (7-of-14) of her attempts from the floor as the junior center ended the afternoon with a game-high 14 points, to go along with five assists and six boards.
Alexandra Long dished six helpers, while also connecting for 11 points.
Ava James pocketed for 10 points of her own while
Sarah Hughes finished with nine points and a game-best seven assists.
The victors demonstrated pinpoint accuracy throughout the game, ending the contest shooting 50% from the field (33-66), complemented by a 72.7% mark from three (8-11) and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
Elise Harvey (22 minutes) and Angie Choi (24 minutes) paced the 2-4 Engineers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Bates (3-1) returns to action Tuesday evening with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off scheduled at the University of Southern Maine (4-1).
