GORHAM, Maine -- Collecting a second-consecutive win of 20+ points, the Bates College offense continues to sizzle as the Bobcats bested the University of Southern Maine, 80-58, Tuesday evening on the road in non-conference women's basketball action.
Opening the contest with an inflated 26-6 lead after the initial 10 minutes of play, the Bobcats set the tone for the remainder of the game as Bates' advantage never slipped below 13 points the rest of the way. Up by a score of 44-27 at intermission, the garnet and white went on to increase its cushion to a game-high 23 points, doing so with an
Elsa Daulerio jumper at the 8:55 mark of the third (50-27), and again, courtesy of a
Danielle Adams jump shot, with 1:27 remaining in regulation (76-53).
After shooting 50% as a team in Sunday's 76-50 victory over MIT, the Bobcats posted a 58.6% combined effort (34-for-58) vs. the Huskies (3-2).
Sarah Hughes paced the victors with a double-double performance consisting of 18 points and 10 boards as the sophomore connected on 7-for-12Â attempts from the field. Daulerio finished just short of her own double-double with the All-American recording 11 rebounds and nine points, complemented with a team-high four assists and a trio of denials.
Sophie Spolter and
Alexandra Long contributed with scoring totals of 15 and 13 points, respectively, as 10 total Bobcats found the bottom of the net in the rout. Liz Cote and Jade Smedberg topped USM with 13 points each.
Bates (4-1) will return to the court Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with another in-state road trip, this time to the University of New England.
