GORHAM, Maine -- Playing its final non-conference tilt of the regular season, Bates College women's soccer paid a visit to the University of Southern Maine where the host-Huskies held off the Bobcats for a 2-1 triumph.
Now victorious in five-straight outings, USM moves to a mighty 12-2 on the year. The garnet and white, coming off Saturday's 1-0 NESCAC road win at Connecticut College, slides to 5-7-1 overall.
A first-half goal by Kiki Huntress (13:41), followed by a tally from Catriona Gould in the 65th-minute (64:28), provided the Huskies a two-goal advantage.
Eleanor Martin's third goal of the season, courtesy of a
Kayte Rourke helper, sliced the Bobcats' deficit in half at the 72:25 mark, but the road team would be unable to net the equalizer.
USM owned a 15-9 cushion when it came to shots (6-5 on frame). Hunter Stonebraker (90:00) and
Ruby Reimann (90:00) recorded four saves a piece respectively for the Huskies and Bates.
The Bobcats will now return to campus to host #19 Middlebury in conference play this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The garnet and white will honor its nine seniors during a special pregame Senior Day ceremony.
