BOSTON, Mass. -- A goal in the 69th minute (68:46) provided Emerson College all of the offense it would need as the host-Lions proceeded to hold on for the 1-0 victory over visiting Bates College Tuesday in non-conference men's soccer action.
Thomas Pelino (San Jose, Calif.) recorded his second goal of the young season as the first-year midfielder connected on a Ben Deeming (Sr.-Annandale, N.J.) assist, snapping the scoreless stalemate with what would be the game-winner. Emerson remains unbeaten to start the year at 1-0-2.
Beckett Hobbs (Fy.-Issaquah, Wash.) earned his first collegiate victory for the Lions in the complete-game shutout, collecting six saves overall.
Trevor Hammond (Canton, Mich.), making his college debut for Bates, did all he could to keep the Bobcats within striking range as the first-year keeper recorded 10 saves in 90:00 for the garnet and white.
Emerson doubled up its guest in the shot column, 16-8, with an 11-6 advantage on frame.
Bates now looks ahead to Friday night when the Bobcats (0-1) open NESCAC play with a visit to #6 Bowdoin (1-0). Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
