BANGOR, Maine -- Bates College women's volleyball extended its winning streak to six-straight in season openers as the Bobcats lifted the lid on the 2023 campaign Tuesday with a 3-0 win at Husson University.
The garnet and white made swift work of the host-Eagles with victories of 25-22, 25-12, and 25-21 to move to 1-0 on the year. Husson remains winless to start the year at 0-3.
Ami Evans (Honolulu, Hawaii) opened her sophomore season with a match-best 10 kills on 21 total attacks (.333 hitting %).
Sofia Castiglioni (Oakland, Calif.), making her first-ever collegiate appearance, floored five kills on eight attempts for a healthy percentage of .625.
Chrissy Chu (Old Tappan, N.J.) enjoyed a solid showing for the victors as the junior setter paced the team with nine assists, nine digs, and five service aces.
Ellie Asada (So.-Honolulu, Hawaii) followed with eight helpers, seven digs, and four aces of her own.
Bates now returns to campus to host the inaugural two-day "First Serve" Classic, beginning this Friday in Alumni Gym. The event will commence with Clark University taking on Maine Maritime Academy at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Bobcats vs. Western Connecticut State University (1-0) at 7:00 p.m.
