MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Bates College's
Julia Anderson and
Ally Friedman each collected first-round victories Friday as the Bobcats competed in the 2023 ITA New England Championship, hosted by Wesleyan University.
Friedman, playing in the "A" singles draw, outlasted Bowdoin College's Caroline Stuhlfaut (Fy.-Duxbury, Mass.) with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 10-6. The Bobcats' senior captain was again pushed to the limit in the round of 32, eventually succumbing to Deliala Friedman (Jr.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) of Amherst College in a 4-6, 6-2, 2-10 battle.
Playing in "B" singles, Anderson received an opening-round bye before defeating Isabella Suk (So.-Minnetonka, Minn.) of Colby College in the round of 32. The Bates first-year had her run ended in the round of 16 with a loss vs. to Williams College's Margaux Molyneaux (Fy.-Washington, D.C.).
The Bobcat tandem also teamed up in doubles action, falling to Adele Fernandez (Sr.-Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Laetitia Rizk (Jr.-Beirut, Lebanon) of Babson College.
